TU/e spin-off ยท green hydrogen technology

Pioneering membrane-free electrolysis

For a cleaner and cheaper hydrogen future.

Our Hollow Core alkaline electrolyser stack is built on a novel, patented gas diffusion electrode. By extracting hydrogen without bubbles or a membrane, it combines high efficiency with abundant materials, making green hydrogen affordable.

The challenge

Green hydrogen deployment is limited

Until now, cost and scalability have limited the adoption of green hydrogen. Three things are holding back conventional electrolysers.

EFFICIENCY

Moderate efficiency

Bubbles and resistive losses cap conventional stacks at roughly 70 to 80% efficiency, leading to large electricity costs.

MATERIALS

Critical materials

PEM electrolysers depend on scarce iridium and Nafion membranes, tying cost and scale-up to fragile supply chains.

FLEXIBILITY

Inflexible operation

Low power density and limited load cycling hold alkaline systems back when paired with fluctuating renewable power.

Our proposition

The Hollow Core Electrolyser

Pora's Hollow Core membrane-free electrolyser delivers a new way to generate hydrogen while overcoming the challenges facing standard green hydrogen electrolysers.

Lower capital costs

Fewer components and no membrane cut the cost of the stack and the balance of plant around it.

Increased efficiency

Removing bubbles from the cell removes the resistive losses that hold conventional stacks back.

Enhanced adaptability

Stable operation across a wide load range, matching the swings of wind and solar power.

Containerised Pora Technologies electrolyser systems
Markets

Our target markets

Cheap electrolysis unlocks decarbonisation in industries where hydrogen is the feedstock.

NH₃

Green ammonia

Fertilizer production is one of the largest hydrogen consumers on Earth.

DRI

Green steel

Direct reduced iron with hydrogen replaces coal in steelmaking.

REFINING

Refining and chemicals

Refineries, methanol, and hydrogenation processes already run on hydrogen at massive scale, with e-fuels adding demand next.
